Apple releases new (but controversial) iTunes 7.1 for Windows

March 7th, 2007 | by Brian |

Does the new iTunes fix the compatibility issues with Windows Vista? It adds support for Apple TV and improves the sorting features. One of the surprises comes as it is not fully compatible with Windows Vista. According to the Apple website, system requirements for the new iTunes are only compatible with Windows XP w/ SP2 or Windows 2000 w/ SP4.

Our View: Apple still doesn’t want to give Vista the nod that Microsoft has hoped for. This would be another roadblock to millions of iPod fans who wants to upgrade to Windows Vista. Nevertheless, I have used iTunes on my Windows Vista machine for a while. The only thing that you can’t do is to use the Vista’s “Safely remove hardware” feature on the lower right corner of the taskbar, which would corrupt your iPod. Other than that, I have not seen any issues. As a matter of fact, it runs better on Windows Vista than Windows XP. I believe this is a business decision by Apple to keep millions of users away from Microsoft Windows Vista.

We all believe that Apple has the technology to fix the problem easily. I guess that’s called “competitive strategy” against Microsoft.
