Total Security 2009 Descriptions:

Total Security 2009, also known as Total Security or TotalSecurity2009, is the latest fake anti-spyware software that created to damage the Internet community. Presumably, Total Security 2009 is a new verion of System Security – different interface, different name but same type of destruction that brings to the innocence. Nevertheless, do not confuse Total Security 2009 (fake softeware) to BitDefender’s Total Security software which is a legit application. This fake Total Security 2009 is just created to confuse us. Just like most fake antispywares, Total Security 2009 issues misleading and exaggerated results. Total Security 2009 usually installed itself onto your PC without your permission, through Vundo Trojan, Virus or fake software. Total Security 2009 will display fake Total alerts or fake security alerts to trick user to buy the paid version of Total Security 2009, in order to remove the potential and reported problems. Not only does it cause your machine to slow down dramatically, it would also put your privacy and data in risk.

Before using our removal instructions to remove Total Security or Total Security 2009, please make sure to back up all of your important data first. Good luck!

I’ve also found the folder in Documents and settings… but it won’t allow me to delete it. It says that the access is denied and that to “Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected and that the file is not currently in use.”

  2. Melly says:

My husband’s computer got the %^#&*@! Total Security yesterday. I, too, worked a long time to try a rid us of it. I eventually used the iexplore.exe + malwarebyte’s anti malware program and it got rid of it – for a half a day. Tonight, it reappeared. I repeated the iexplore.exe + anti-malware process and it appears to be gone. Has this happened to anyone else???

  3. Bud says:

I also found that TotalSecurity 4.5, which is what I had, put in four .exe files in c:\Windows\system32 that were found by malwarebytes but were not in the above lists. I don’t know if they are random and vary from infection to infection or are the same. Here are the files:
    dokakuru.exe
    yubuguyi.exe
    suteniro.exe
    hidagipe.exe

  4. Jared says:

This worked for me. Quickly opened TM and found the process and killed it. Thanks.

  5. Dale says:

if you dont have a system restore point, do the following.
    1. open task manager
    2. process tab
    3. find tcs.exe and end the process
    4. open reg edit (registery editor)
    5. look wherever on this page and it tell’s you the location’s on where to find the problem to remove.
    6. click edit at top and click find.
    7. paste the path’s at top in the find search area and click search/find whatever.
    8. when it find’s the problem delete it.

(Note) this is better done in safe-mode incase you accidentally delete the wrong thing’s from reg-edit.

    Hope this is helpfull.

But for me it just happened now, I had trouble finding how to delete it cause it kept telling me this page was blocked for threat’s or whatever, so i got annoyied and luckily enough it let me do system restore.

If you don’t have a system restore point, then you can make one, all computer’s should have a restore point unless it was unsafe to do the process from an older threat that was already on your computer.

  6. tony says:

had trouble with this also.could not restore computer of get online.went to start and clicked on search. then typed in total security. searched under all files and it pulled up total security.right clicked on it and hit delete.was able to get into computer and get online.may download some sort of spyware program. i know nothing about computers except brousing online. hope this helps someone.

  7. Roger the Shrubber says:

Reload the operating system? Shut down your computer. Walk away. Never touch another computer. Ever.

Thank’s everyone! you guys are genius!godbless

  9. jchap says:

FOOL PROOF!! The system restore is the best method I have found. It hit me on 9/23/09 around 15:00 and I had it taken care of within an hr. I have Windows Vista. Boot your computer up like you always do and go to “computer” or “my computer” then to “system properties” at top of window. Select “system protection” tab. You can either choose a restore point that is available prior to the virus or create one that was before the virus. I suggest creating one that is a day or two prior to the incident. Then click “system restore” and follow prompts and allow the system to completely revamp itself. Hope it helps, worked for me. Thanks for all the help with previous posts.

  10. Tom Jones says:

Drag the Total Security2009 desktop display off to the side. Go to My Computer,Documents & Settings, Owners profile folder. Look for Total Security 2009 folder. Check the properties on the shortcut it will link to a numbered folder in the documents & settings all users folder. Delete both folders. Power off! When you boot again control should be restored. I suggest Avast free home edition and Malwarebytes to clean any other infected files. Best of luck, took me six hours to figure this one out!

  11. Scott says:

Maywand thanks. System restore was the right suggestion. Easy and worked like a charm.

  12. steve says:

Thanks a million!!! I just got total security 2009 yesterday. It had me going insane!!! I literally could not do ANYTHING on my desktop froze and locked everything. I tried every other advised process on here like the system restore. Wouldn’t even give me a restore date. So I just followed those steps got my task manager up FINALLY and was able to stop total security blocking me for a bit. Now I am running a full scan of my harddrive with my trusty anti-malware and I think that will clear me all up. Thank you so much again!!!

  13. Arnold says:

Thanks for this advice! Corey’s method worked for us. We had to reboot several times before we could get to task manager then just started deleting .exe files (for example cjlk.exe) We didn’t have numbers at all. One of the ones we deleted stopped it until we could run Malwarebytes which found all the infected files. We found advice elsewhere that said not to “contain” the files but to delete them entirely. To be on the safe side, we are running Avira Antivirus and then going to find a restore point.
The advice in this column was very helpful. We kept trying all the methods over and over until one worked.

  14. Ronda says:

Help!! I am computer dumb. I have windows xp.
Everyone is talking about safe mode when restarting computer. How do I find this?

  15. Dee says:

I agree with Pete. I had the total security on my computer and was unable to restore. But if you do as Pete says:

“Go To C:/Windows select the system32 folder..
In there u will see TASKMGR.EXE…. right click this file and rename it IEXPLORE.EXE…

Then when you doucle click on IEXPLORE.EXE in system32 folder afterwards.. totalsecurity will let it run thinking its explorer…

The Task manager will then start.. you can then kill the task of TotalSecurity there… once you have successfully killed the program running..

Just install a decent AntiSpyware program, scan and rid it…. Simple As..”

You can also try downloading Mozilla Firefox browser. Use this browser to download Malwarebytes for free. Once downloaded, you can run a scan to rid your computer of total security and any other trojan viruses.

When rebooting, just type in the F8 key a few times and that should do the trick.

Hope this helps and good luck Ronda.

  17. brett says:

    did the same thing

  18. nay says:

install firefox as the total security does not work in that browser…and get this program it will clean all the “total security” on your computer… here is the name of the program ( Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware) there is a free version that will get rid of it for you…you have to pay for future protection …..(but that is an option)..not required to clean up your computer.

  19. saiful says:

i just got infected and after minutes of searching, i found that folder C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\12104684 contain this bullsh!t. delete it and also it registry. then try to run your antivirus.

  20. knr says:

If you can’t get taskmgr to run a way to temporarily disable it is to go to
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data
there will be a director that is an 8 digit number.
Rename this directory (right click, rename)
Rename the files (xxxxxxxx.exe) to something else.
MOVE the files to somewhere else.
When you reboot – the evil thing can’t find it’s main executable… So you can start scrubbing.

Unfortunately – it seems to have some hooks into IE scheduler – so it will reload itself every few days if you don’t get it all. I got 4 different versions of it before I (hopefully) killed it for good.

This mal-ware is like HAL from 2001: A Space Odyssey… You bring up taskmgr and it says “Dave, I can’t let you do that” and kills the taskmgr process. Same with every other executable except IE.

  21. Han Liem says:

I did what you said and was succesful to remove Total Security completely. Thanks for your excellent step by step instructions. Toal Security had frustrated me for 3 days, they are like terrorist instigating terrible fears in us, completely false and trying to let you buy their nonsense for $ 59.90! It’s criminal!
    Thanks Maywand.

  22. Mike says:

I used the the program process explorer to kill tsc.exe it doesnt seem to be affected worked well then used malwarebyes anti malware to remove all free all downloaded horrible pain in the ass if you dont catch it early wont let you visit site or download so works fast

  23. David says:

Does paying that fee actually remove the fake spyware? Has anyone tried to trace where that money goes? Sounds like crimnal action could be taken against these people!

  24. Chris says:

I tried going into safemode option. and using system restore there and it worked beautifully. just go to a day before the software got installed. I have vista by the way

  25. WK says:

I just came back from removing Total Security 2009 on my uncle’s Vista PC without an prior knowledge of this virus.

Here is how I did it:
    1) Start->type “msconfig” and hit enter
    2) Under “Startup”, look for a program with the path under the “Command” column having a path that ends with a 8 digit number.
    3) Take note of the folder, and uncheck the program so that it will not run on startup.
    4) Restart computer
    5) Now go to the folder and delete all its content.

    You are clear!

  26. Hubert says:

This really worked. I was at a loss because it wouldn’t let me open AVG or any other security program. One wonders what idiots concoct pain in the neck software like that, and why. Thanks!

  27. jim says:

well system restore worked great for my vista 64 bit laptop thanks a million.i dont know how i can ever repay you guys.mabye i can pass the info on.someone should hack tsc website and give them a really bad malware!

  28. jett says:

hey i found something strange yet usefull with vista (dunno for xp or 7):
when trying to execute programs “under the influence” of the spyware/virus/we by double clicking or right-click “run” or “run as admin”, it didnt work… launched the dam thing again… but when you right-click “start”, you can execute the application you want, like a anti-spyware!

    hope its usefull

  29. cloudman says:

Well, that didn’t work. Went back to a restore point and yes it got rid of Total XP Security, BUT, now I can’t open any programs…from anywhere. Keep getting asked what program I want to open the program with. Ran chkdsk/r to repair the registry…it did, still same problem. Safe Mode get same thing. HELP. AGGGGHHHHHHHHHH.

  30. meg says:

I have read and tried all this above, but there is no number process or tsc or total security task running on the task manager to stop, the task manager is opening fine at the moment, however nothing else can open. oddly, i can access the internet (for now).

  31. Howoui says:

Never thought this would happen to me. But it finally has. I can’t get rid of the damn thing. The file I keep closing down in the Task Manager is ave.exe. But it keeps returning every 5 min. or when I click to open IE. I have downloaded all of these programs to get rid of these viruses but there aren’t any free ones that I could find. If someone out there know’s of a freebie, please let me know.
    Thanks in advance

  32. peter says:

hey cloudman did you ever figure it out? i am in the same spot as you are in

  33. mabor says:

A VERY BIG THANK YOU TO MAYWAND (post August 20, 2009). As you said very easy to do and got rid on Total XP Security – at last.

  34. JP says:

I like others cant system restore, I have ended the process but AVG and ad-aware cant remove them. I go to documents and settings-users and cant find the file. I’m stuck not really knowing what to do.

  35. wj says:

I got the Total XP Security version of this today and am unable to remove it. It has blocked me from being able to start in Safe Mode and I can not run any exe files what so ever. I can’t even open my registry editor. I can’t run the Malware Bytes program. I was able to find and delete the ave.exe file but that only stopped it from running scans and pop ups. System Restore won’t open so I have no idea if I even have restore points.

This thing has totally messed my machine up but blackmailing me to pay to pay these a**holes for the *fix* is not gonna work and I hope they don’t make a dime off their malicious malware.

OH well, I needed to reinstall anyway…

  36. Stroder112085 says:

System Restore!!! It’s the only way my friends. I’m an IT and I fought this thing four 4 days. Here’s why. If I had the proper security in the first place I wouldn’t have been infected with this. Now that I am, it’s too late and that’s the way this malware works. It restricts you from
fighting it after it infects. SAFE MODE> System Restore to an earlier date. Save your time.

  37. penny says:
