I can’t find av1.exe. What did I do wrong? Another question – How do I know if Antivirus Number 1 has been completely removed? Will it come back like someone said here? I am so concerned because I got a lot of important data on this laptop.

have u tried system store? most virus can be wiped with system restore. even if it’s not wiped completely, at least it would get ur computer moving again then u can try those complicated removal instructions.

My PC was infected with a version of Anti-virus Number-1 that had its executable named “N1.exe”. Try looking for that file (and associated .cab files).

Does SpyHunter work? Or is it a trojan too?

  14. By Steve on Mar 22, 2009 | Reply

Ignacio, SpyHunter seems to be legit, but heck they charge $30 for the software. Isn’t it worth it? well, it’s your call. I’d rather buy a new iMac. My wife would kill me though if she ever finds out. :)

I had this problem on Saturday, 3.21.09, I tried a system restore back to the day before, and that seemed to work just fine. Make sure you close all apps and save any unsaved work before you do this.

    Good luck and Good night.

Thanks for the information. My computer just got infected – conveniently a few days after my 3 year DELL warranty expired. Coincidence? Don’t know. Hope this works. Thank you.

I found that going to the task manager and clicking on the process tab, then clicking the end process button stopped the virus, much easier than buying unnecessary spyware.

    Thanks to blogger Alex!!

Thanks Rosie, the task manager worked!!!

hey, it’s me again, in a much more calm state. Eureka! I’ve removed the software (and could’ve done it w/o purchasing the spyhunter program, but oh well). Here’s how:

    Press Alt+Ctrl+Delete simultaneously.

    Click Start Task Manager.

Next, you should get a whole list of processes (Under the tab labeled Processes).

Look for anything along the lines of AV1.exe, AVN1.exe, or N1.exe (Hey, they’re listed above ^^^^ silly me X_X)

Right click on it (it’s the rotten spyware that should burn in hell for all eternity.

Click End Process Tree(I said End Process TREE, not End Procees)

The damn thing is outta there, outta your world, outta your life, that is, unless it gets ya again.

Hope this helps. Try this method before blowing ur money. ^_^ good day all.

  30. By Kim on Apr 11, 2009 | Reply

Nikki, YOU ROCK. that was sooo easy! and presto… no more av1. So much for all the other sites selling crap saying removal requires a proffesional and tons of expensive software.

  31. By Kim on Apr 11, 2009 | Reply

never mind…. it’s back, just no longer listed in ‘task manager’ Guess I got it bad :(

  32. By Bob on Apr 19, 2009 | Reply

    I have been infecected with Anti-Virus Number-1.
Following thje instructions in this blog the only process I could find running with Task Manager was “N1.exe. I terminated this process.
As far as finding any of the files you listed to be deleted on my hard drive, my computer search revealed no files found. I next proceeded to restore my computer to a previous checkpoint (hopefully to sometime before I was infected). After several attemps, from selecting a date a few days back to several weeks back, the computer response after rebooting was “Unable to restore to date xx/xx/xx, Try to restore by selecting another date.” In short I do not seem to be able to execute a restore.
Where do I go from here?

The first time I came across these bastards of Anti-virus number one was under the alias of “anti-virus”, a year ago. Two individuals got it through a malicious site they visited. They even purchase the fake program, because of being nooblets to computers. I reported these axeholes to the FCC.
Then, today a friend called me to installed avg freeware, (I installed the avg trial package two months ago),and voila. These bastards are around under number-1. I uninstalled the fake av, and then use the task manager to kill it, to be able to install the avg freeware. Now I have an issue with both programs.
1.- Avg won’t install because of the (I think this av is preventing AVG from fully deployment.
    Or
2.- avg just went rogue just like symantec, mcafee and trendmicro. I experience many times (past times), when uninstalling these AV programs would cause a crash and damage the disk (clusters), to never have the disk fully operable without reinstalling the system or buying a new HDD. That is my assumption because of many past experiences.

The only solution to these conflict is back up your most important files. Reformat and do a clean installation.

If you bought the puter from a major vendor and there was no OS disk, there’s a back up on the secondary partition. vista user get rid of it and get xp. Vista is a farse nowadays. Think of as a low quality product. If you have a tight budget then i’d strongly suggest to migrate to one of many distros of Linux. UBuntu is the most friendly enviro for nooblets. Mandriva power pack is the best choice for windows user. Forget about Apple, they’re going the same path as windows. Other than being expensive, they live under the same motto as windows of today. “Screw their own clients”

Than why did one ruin my friends mac?
Here’s why, it ONLY protects against viruses, not trojans or worms or any of that other crap.
