I’ve found and deleted frmwrks.exe, but there seems to be no reference to antivirus xp pro on my computer – registry or c:\.

I’ve reissued group policies for task manager as recommended above and it’s working.

But, I can’t use system restore because pressing “next” in the last step of the wizard hangs and does not complete the process.

Is there a registry fix for system restore?

  2. denn says:

Will it come back? Is the bug still in the system?

This things a f***ing nightmare. Going to do a reformat of the hard drive and start from scratch. It’s the only way you can be sure to get rid of it IMO.

  8. chris says:

i tried a system restore and after i pick a date to go back to the click next nothing happens like literally nothing happens. Maybe the virus deleted the restore points? because system restore is on but it wont respond

  9. TC says:

    I got it out.

    1. I ran my current virus protection twice until it removed 4 items, BUT not this virus.
    2. I then downloaded Firefox and ran their antivirus proghram and it foudn 20 items (including this one) and that did it.

Two hours, and it is gone.

  10. Geoff Thompson says:

Awful program. I had the misfortune to download this little horror, thinking it would help. Anti Virus XP (Or should I say Virus XP!) is nothing more than rouge software created by a bunch of stupid computer nerds with nothing better to do than to destroy people’s computers with fake spyware removal.

  11. Charli says:

Iv somehow managed to download this today and cant get rid of it…system restore has completely gone down. HELP!!!

  12. CL2 says:

My computer started acting up one day, and would continually give me the BSOD, so I did a complete re-image of the computer (system restore), which finally seemed to be getting somewhere. I then started getting these pop-ups saying I needed an antivirus software, which I did. I then downloaded Symantec Antivirus 2009 and a Symantec firewall, and realized that these other pop-ups were part of Antivirus Pro 2009. I scanned the computer and got rid of Antivirus Pro 2009…idk if the BSOD problem is related, but I’ve seen a lot of people talk about how McAfee didn’t work, so I would try Symantec. No, I don’t work for Symantec… Oh, and now I’m paranoid, so I’m continually scanning my computer. Good luck to all!

  13. CHR Paycomm says:

Thank you all for using my program, your constant blogging allows us to keep renaming the files – Oh yeah…No, you won’t get your money back. Thanks again!!

  14. tyler says:

all i did is open it then close it with task manager and now its gone i hope the pop-uos havent been haping :)

  15. dm4135 says:

F8 to start in safe mode.
Search for desot (look in hidden folders to).
Once found, change name to something else. I just added an X to the start of the name. Reboot and the virus won’t be able to find the proper dll in order to run.

  16. John says:

Thanks for all the help. Its nice to know there is a counter virus effort out there.

  17. honey53209 says:

I am tired of provirus popping up on my screen. I cant play any games or anything. So when will it stop. Leave me alone.

  18. Tom Bretz says:

    Robbed and screwed WTF!!!!

  19. KS says:

I just encountered this nasty virus. The newer version like to do the following things:

    1. Blocked task manager
    2. Blocked helpful programs
    3. Blocked system restore
    4. Opened up porn sites
    5. Lots of pop
    6. Changes IE settings
    7. Changed start up programs

To solve all of this you use a second browser to Download a removal tool and then disconnect from internet and go into safe mode. Then use the program to remove registries which prevent the task manager from runing. Next restart in normal mode and start task manager before the virus opens and figure out its location and write down then stop the process. (The name is random so this the only way to locate it) Open the location and delete the application and your problem is solved.

Dont forget to resest IE settings and start up program settings afterwards.

All this took about 1.5 hours to fix.

  20. Brock says:

This doesn’t work…. the new Antivirus Pro 2009 that I recently got won’t let me open ANYTHING except internet. Please update this and find a new way. Thank you… but I’m just going to remove everything and wipe my computer back to “Out of the box” status. I don’t feel like dealing with this.

  21. I got rped by antivirus pro says:

Will someone please help me, I have tried removing antivirus pro, but now my comp wont even start, and I am unable to even get into safe mode, I would rather pay to have it fixed than lose all of the files on my computer, what can anyone suggest?

  22. I got rped by antivirus pro says:

I should have also mentioned that I have windows Vista, if I am able to get a startup disc will I then be able to do a system restore to a point before this godless virus wrecked my computer?

  23. BM says:

OK, it’s obvious from the progression you miscreants involved with this piece of crap monitor these areas. Yes you’re very clever. To bad you’re so misguided with your skills that you’re not worthy of a legitimate place in society or the air you breath. Hopefully you are or will be addicted to something that, eventually, this misguided activity won’t feed, and you die slowly, painfully and by yourself. Obviously you don’t believe in Karma… fortunately your belief isn’t required for it to be effective.

  24. chris says:

im just wondering would anybody be able to give me advise how to remove anti virus live, when i try to open my task manager it wont let me, and to try and remove programmes, won’t let me access internet options either….

    cheers chris

  25. Ferenc says:

Hi, just got a version of this viral crap.
    file infected was:
    C:\Documents and Settings\%user%\Local Settings\Application Data\av.exe

    !!

  26. Chad J says:

I swear to god if I found the douche bag(s) that made this I would beat their ass to a pulp. I hope whoever made you, “XP Antivirus Pro”, burns eternally in hell. Not overexagerating in the least bit.

  27. John says:

    Wow this thing really sucks
