Hello all. I just want to say that I love seeing people come together to help each other out of the kindness of their heart. This is the way human beings should always behave and not just for computer viruses. We all know these viruses are all part of a scam. Ok on to the virus. I'm not a tech but have some experience dealing with these things. In task manager the process was named av.exe or av.exe*32. i ended the process tree but when I would try to start Avast, Malwarebytes, System restore even the internet, it would not allow me to. Eventually I started internet explorer through the start menu. I came here. I tried downloading Spyware Doctor and Spyware Hunter. The virus did not allow me to. Ok on to manual removal. I could not get regedit to start. So now what? i tried looking for the file names and the actual program to delete them but could not find them. Tough little virus I thought, nope! So what I did was go to Avast's program files and tried starting it from there. It worked. I ran the scan and it found one infected file. I removed it but the virus was still there. It must be malware I thought so I tried starting Malwarebytes from the program files directory but it didn't work. Aaarrgggh! I tried stuff in safe mode but the virus was there too. I rebooted, back to square one. Now what? Finally I decided that I had to open Malwarebytes somehow. So I right clicked and simply clicked run as administrator. It opened! I updated and ran the scan. Virus found. See ya!!! I hope this helps. sorry for the long rant. Peace and love from Chicago..

Last I blew away a (similar?) infection as this was , I logged on with a different logon to the machine (with administrator privileges) and blew away the profile that had the infection and hen recreated that profile and he infection was gone. Of course, a full system scan was in place after that just to be on the safe side. Also, data from the infected user's account was saved to a different directory before i blew away the account. Lucky for this machine, the severity of the infection was local to a user account and not the whole system.
