Likewise this antivirus 2009 ad has messed up my computer. I can’t get to any web page,it keeps giving me a warning the site might be infected, then proceeds to tell me to install antivirus 2009 ( at a cost of $49.95 ). No thanks! But I need to use my computer. I had AVG 9 when this started popping up. Now it won’t go away. Help!

    Everyone,

Just go to control panel under “Start”, then open “Add/Remove Program”… and read carefully because it seems to blend in with the rest of your MS applications, but it should read “MS AntiSpyware 2009″, just select it and uninstall it.

Now the rest of the garage trails of defects and infections it left behind is up to you to clean up. But it should solve the unwanted spyware popping up part.

I suggest yall have a good antivirus & antispyware system and run it as many times as it takes to track down all the trojans & trash left behind.

    God Bless!

    V.

So how do we remove this MS Antispyware 2009 ? I have been stuffing around for 11 hours! Still cant seem to locate it. Stops admin access and wont allow me to install any software? Tried Smitfraudfix but it comes up with a windows error. I found traces of it in the registry and deleted them but it is still here? System Restore doesnt work (even in safe mode). So How do we get rid of it?

I had this get into my computer. I called Microsoft and they were great. The tech removed it. You have to let them take over your computer, and it took close to an hour over the phone, but it was worth it. They got rid of it. Another friend of my mistakenly clicked on it and it wound up costing him $200 to get his computer fixed. I figured it was something fishy, and it appears to show up just when your security expires, as was the case with me.

I had the problem , used the “add/remove programs” utility, and the problem was gone! Or, is it really? Do I have to do other cleaning (registry, etc.) to keep this from happening again? Right now, all is running well.

With Windows Explorer, go to C:WINDOWS/system38/userinit.exe and delete it. The pop ups will stop.
As an additional effect my computer has become very slow, and my task manager shows 100 % of CPU use, due to msa.exe. I did a system search with “msa” and found 3 maps (1 application and 2 prefetch files) that seem dangerous. Think I am going to delete them also, if it is possible.

  18. By Eddy Van de Putte on Apr 15, 2009 | Reply

Happy to inform you that I have deleted the 3 maps I talked about. From the 140 hits during the search they are easy to recognize by the date they were made/changed. This is the date the infection happened.
The 2 prefetch maps were easy to delete, but the application map was a bit tricky. It refused to be deleted because it was active, so I had to shut down the application with the task manager first, and then was able to delete it.
Now my computer is running like a beauty again.
Hope this is of some interest.

    Eddy, anyone…
I tried to go into C:WINDOWS/system32 as my laptop doesn’t show system38 but cannot find what you said to delete…
    Can anyone help please?
My Norton 360 says i have nothing wrong with the laptop but MS Antispyware 2009 alerts keep popping up.
Could anyone help please? Should i worry even with Norton on?
    Thanks

    System: Windows XP
I tryed a freeware version of a antispyware program but it only partially fixed the problem.

To completely rid my system of this problem I did the following:

To temporarily stop the popups, open the Processes tab in the Windows Task Manager and
click on Userinit.exe and then click the End Process button.

Userinit.exe is a valid Windows program found in \windows\system32. The problem is that the spyware had changed my valid Windows program to a spyware program. To fix this copy the file userinit.exe from \windows\servicepackfiles\i386 to \windows\system32
