This Rapid Antivirus rapidly spreads through my computer. I could not help but reload XP after spending 3 hours to back up all the data as suggested by a few guys here. I am really afraid of losing everything and I don’t want to take a chance of removing the bad files manually.

None of the Rapid Antivirus files appear in anywhere on my computer, yet i still get the constant pop ups. How can I find them? I’ve used the search function (for both hidden and regular files) and I’ve found nothing in the registry.

I’m having the same problem as bobo. My labtop downloaded rapid antivirus, now, my superantispyware will not work and I cannot open webpages to download a new copy. I cannot find any malicious processes, files, or registry values. In addition, i have two new desktop links, one for gay fetish sex, and the other a porn site. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Keep cool, there are a lot of variants, and it could happend that you could not have this name´d files, but you will find them at differnt locations. Also check all different users (admin / allusres/ yourname) Additionally, to avoid re-load, you should definitly bann in your hosts data (C:/Windows/System32/drivers/hosts/etc)the website.

I just had to remove this from one of our client’s computers. It was definitely the Rapid Antivirus malware. The process in the Task Manager was called “msiconf.exe”. Check for this process and kill it. Then go to C:\Windows\system32 and delete “msiconf.exe”. This will stop the harrassing popups, warnings, blue screens and fake reboots.

How do you determine which process it is that you need to stop> I cant find any of the ones that have already been mentioned and this virus is out of control on this computer> please help me>

Thank you to E. Candanedo. I followed your advice and my machine is now bootable and has not froze yet. : ) : )
Stopped process in Task Manager….“msiconf.exe”. Then went to C:\Windows\system32 and delete “msiconf.exe”.
I am still getting the warning popups though.
I suspect the following files. I am unable to delete them.
C:\WINDOWS\source\i386\IIS.CAB\IIS_ca_rapidfailprotect.htm
C:\WINDOWS\source\i386\IIS.CAB\IIS_ref_mb_rapidfailprotect.htm
Are these files a problem?
I know I am close to beating this… any suggestions? THANK YOU EVERYONE!!!!

try with the malwarebyte application. Look in your “administration” and “your name” files of “my document”. Make sure you can see “hiddin files” and find “.exe” files. Try deleting them with the program malwarebyte: There is an option at the very right end you can choose in the program call “file ASSASSIN”. TRy it, it worked for me.
