i followed the steps and got rid of the virus thank you so very much for that
however i’m pretty sure i messed up somewhere whenever i try to run something (.exe) a quick launch prompt that states “this file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. create and association in the folder options control panel.”
I can still run my stuff, i just have to open the file (open an html file to start firefox, i can’t run it any other way)
what would i associate the .exe file type so i can run my stuff like normal again?

EXE File Association Fix (Restore default association for EXE files)
This should fix .exe files not working.

The Anti-Virus 2010 attack is being a pain in my ass. I’m having a difficult time even finding the bloody thing. It’s over taken my Windows Defender so each time I bring it up it instead brings up AV2010. When I search for any of the files recomended I get nothing.
Anyone else having this problem? More importently, has anyone else having this problem found a solution, because I’m at m wits end here and have resorted to manually going through the entire computer in hopes of accidetly falling accross it.

Hello everyone,
For all of you that are experienced troubles with EXE association please follow this steps:
1. Click “Start”->”Run…”-> type here regedit and click OK.
2. In the left pane click HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> SOFTWARE -> Classes -> exefile -> shell -> open -> command.
On the right pane you should have a registry key with Name (Default). If you have such key right-click on (Default),select Modify and in field “Value data” put “%1″ %* (please put this exactly as shown). If you don`t have (Default) key here right-click on the empty space on the left pane, select New->String value. As name type (Default), after that right-click on the (Default) and follow the instructions above.

The registry, the .exe file are associated as “secfile” other “exefile”.
You must change this and search on registry some entry about “secfile”.
I have keep the entry after be sure none other .exe are associated to secfile.
(Search “.exe”, key (only) whith entire word).
Good luck.

I’m in the same boat as far as the “this file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. create and association in the folder options control panel.†prblem is concerned, however, I can’t even run “regedit now. Any suggestions?

Followed the above steps and virus is gone. Although I am having the same problem, cannot open programs or registry to fix the file association. Anyone have an answer? Thanks!

Hello Patty, I think i have a solution to your problem. Please make a new text file with notepad on your desktop, select all the following:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\.exe\shell\open\command]
[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\secfile\shell\open\command]
[-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.exe\shell\open\command]
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.exe]
@=”exefile”
“Content Type”=”application/x-msdownload”
[-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\secfile]
copy and paste it in the file on your desktop. Then click File-Save as … and name the new file Regfix.reg (be sure that the file has extention .reg not .txt). Double-click on the .reg file, click OK when asked.
Please post the result here.

Alex,
You are a star. I had managed to delete the virus, but was at the point of all of these other users. I could run the registry editor, but couldn’t get rid of the keys or set up the right associations. The registry fix excerpt you post above worked perfectly for me.
I wasted 5 hours of my life getting rid of this f’ing spyware. I hope they catch the people that made it and shoot them.
On behalf of all the other people affected by this, thanks for closing the final hole.
