Alex,

You are a star. I had managed to delete the virus, but was at the point of all of these other users. I could run the registry editor, but couldn't get rid of the keys or set up the right associations. The registry fix excerpt you post above worked perfectly for me.

I wasted 5 hours of my life getting rid of this f'ing spyware. I hope they catch the people that made it and shoot them.

On behalf of all the other people affected by this, thanks for closing the final hole.

Hello Patty, I think i have a solution to your problem. Please make a new text file with notepad on your desktop, select all the following:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\.exe\shell\open\command]
[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\secfile\shell\open\command]
[-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.exe\shell\open\command]
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.exe]
@="exefile"
"Content Type"="application/x-msdownload"
[-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\secfile]

copy and paste it in the file on your desktop. Then click File-Save as ... and name the new file Regfix.reg (be sure that the file has extention .reg not .txt). Double-click on the .reg file, click OK when asked.
Please post the result here.

Followed the above steps and virus is gone. Although I am having the same problem, cannot open programs or registry to fix the file association. Anyone have an answer? Thanks!
