This Anti virus just started itself on my computer and i cannot shut perform any other task…. How can i remove this virus without the computer freezing ?

  10. By Christopher on May 30, 2007 | Reply

To start your system in safe mode:
    Shut down the computer completely.
    Power on
Press F8 key repeatedly. If you get a keyboard error, restart your system and do this again.
This will take you to a screen with many options such as (Normal, Safe Mode with Command Prompt, Safe Mode, Safe Mode with Networking). Use the arrow keys to highlight Safe Mode with Networking and press enter.
You will recieve an alert saying that you are starting your computer in Safe Mode and a long paragraph explaining what Safe Mode is.

A brief explanation of what is happening here:
Safe Mode is a means of starting your computer with the bare minimum of processes and applications running. This mode of operation will keep the WinAntiVirus programs from loading, therefore, you will not see most if any of the processes listed. THIS DOES NOT MEAN THAT YOU SHOULD SKIP THE PROCESS STEP. Be sure to diligently scroll through the running processes to make sure that there aren’t any that have executed. Then continue to remove the registry keys, programs, and .dll files.
Most programs will not install in Safe Mode, so you will not be able to install the tool listed above. If you are unsure about editing the registry, use Safe Mode to download and save the SpyHunter program to your computer. Boot into your normal mode and install it, then shut your computer down and run the program in safe mode. It may seem tedious, but sometimes it’s necessary.

    Hope this helps.

I also was duped into purchasing the program and in trying to remove files in safe mode my computer locked up. Now when I try to start in safe mode I get to “multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINNT\System32\Drivers\agp440.sys.” and it just stays there and will not go any further. How do I get past that point to get safe mode started? I am running Windows 2000 and realize this is for XP but the WinAntiVirus Pro 2007 was relevant. Just hoping someone can shed some light. Thanks.

hello, i seem to be infected by this virus too! It does not even permit me to run Adaware program this is driving me crazy. When I run Adaware, I receive an error message saying things like “c000021 fatal system error” and the computer shuts down! I hate my computer and this damn winantivirus thing that pops up all the time.

i found a temporary relief. as long as i dont use internet explorer window or msn messenger or windows live messenger, nothing happens. I am using mozzilla browser these days and i receive no pop-ups.

I think this winantiviru pro 2007 thing got into my computer through windows live messenger.

After i had some virus problems, i get these pop-ups too in Internet Explorer, i’m still finding a cure.
My Ad-aware SE version also gave blue screens. I de-installed it and installed Ad-aware 2007 (Free version). This works fine. Further Spybot-Search and Destroy and Windows defender do not find anything about WinAntivirus Pro 2007. Updated windows XP (sp2) with all security packs, but no cure yet.

I think you guys should probably reformat your computers if you have not been able to fix the issues. Before you do this make absolutely certain you have all your important documents backed up by burning them on to a CD/DVD or putting them on a USB drive, as when you reformat you will lose everything on your C:\ drive.

o do it, just follow these directions:

right at your very first boot screen (before the windows XP load screen…should say “DELL” or “IBM” or perhaps the motherboard company) it should say somewhere “hit F2/del/F10″ or some such key to enter SETUP. Hit this stated key (usually F2, F5 or DEL) before the windows boot screen comes on, this should bring you to your BIOS/CMOS menu. In this menu, go through all the options until you find something called BOOT SEQUENCE (usually in ADVANCED SETTINGS or BASIC SETTINGS), and when you find it, use the /- and up/down/enter keys to make the boot sequence as follows:

    #1 CD-Rom or DVD-ROM (whichever you own)
#2 Hard Disk 1 or IDE01 (they usually mean the same thing)

once this is complete, exit and save the settings, and the system should begin to reboot. You should now insert either your recovery CD or the official Windows XP CD (whichever came with your computer) and restart your computer once more. The computer should boot from this CD and you will be able to follow the directions it gives you from here to complete the reformat. However, do not choose to “recover” your old windows as this will not fix these virus/spyware issues. If you need any help please feel free to e-mail me at the address phish335 at hotmail dot com (at=@,dot=., this was done to prevent spam)

This seems to be quite a large problem. Is there anywhere we can go, or something we can do to help people not get the adware? Signing petitions or something? Just something to help shut these bums down?

This is insane, I have been fighting a losing battle for the past 5 days. What can I do? I can’t find the files, I am not the most comp savvy person. Is there a program I can buy that will wipe this out. I am willing to do anything at this point aside from throwing my PC out the window (which I was very close to doing before I found out that there was more then just me battling this issue). TIA ~ Tonya

My aunt was duped by this malware into purchasing the software, but of course she bought the $80 version which includes drivescanner. After about 8 hours of work, between trying to save her data and then I ended up with a messed up master boot record so I had to use a bunch of different peices of software to try to format the hd and use her compaq restore software (which sucks by the way). I found that the only program I could use to reformat the drive was a low-level disk utility known as fdisk. You can get this on ultimatebootdisc.com or just use a dos-compatible startup disk. I am very interested in getting her money back for her as she was conned and scammed into buying this peice of software. Also note that they now have her banking information as well as passwords since it’s a backdoor trojan. Who knows what furthur damages can be done. If you have this peice of malware, reformat immediately. It spreads like cancer and there’s almost no getting rid of it. If anyone has any information on getting my aunt’s money back, please let me know. The web site of that software says they have a 30-day money back guarantee…. Email me if you have furthur information or any questions kurtis dot mullins at my dot sinclair dot edu.

The winantivrus has taken several admin rights away. I no longer have access to the control panel, properties under my computer, and the regedit function. I loaded Avast and ran it in boot mode, and it deleted a number of files, but the popups are still occurring, and I still do not have admin access. Does anyone have any ideas what to do next? I can attempt reformatting, but I have only done this once before, so I think of that as a last resort.

    Thanks!

I have spent the past 12 hours on the phone with pc safety, microsoft, norton, most of them 3 times….i have allowed them access to my computer by sharing, they too have not been able to fix the problem, I to do not have admin rights anymore, think it happened 5 days ago. I will be restoring my pc in the morning, have burned all important files to disc, I dread the time i will spend reloading all my software. Norton promised to get rid of the virus for $100 but only a 5% guar. they would be able to get my rights back to admin controls….. I will do it myself by going back to factory installed…

    Good luck to all

Today I turned my PC on and these WinAntivirus pop ups are suddenly everywhere! They won’t go away!! We use Avast and so the first time I got the pop up, I thought it was Avast, so I clicked “yes, pls stop the computer from illegialy copying files and fix the problem”….Then Avast blasts this siren at me and tells me a trojan has been detected and to cancel download or something to make it stop. But now I’ve got constant popups and this annoying warning symbol in my notification corner. I’m hoping that we can work through the instructions above and get all the files… we just got this PC! But you are all right, this is certainly out of hand. I use Firefox, but the other user chooses IE… is that what’s its coming in through? If you have any recommendations or information, please please PLEASE email me. I would be greatly appreciative, b/c it just started today and I am hoping I can get rid of it before it embeds too deeply. I was surprised to see all of you writing about it, it looks like a huge problem and none of us should have to put up with this. My sympathies to all ~~ :o (

I think I’ve gotten an evolved version of this or something, because it locks me out of registry edit, task manager, and the control panel. It says they have been disabled by my administrator. Seeing as how this is my home computer, and I’m the only one who uses it, I think its more likely that the Win Antivirus did this, since the first time I was unable to access the things listed above was about 2 minutes after Win Antivirus showed up. Any ideas?

I have been wrestling with winantivirus for 3 days now. I finally got contol panel back by using spybot scan and remove. I also used adaware and removed some more “stuff”. Finally after purchasing spyware doctor and running that. EZ virus protection did not pick up any of this. I also believe I got this through windows messenger. Not totally sure all is well but I have all my controls, etc. back and speed as well. We’ll see-tomorrow’s another day

  43. By Hate NastyWinAV on Aug 24, 2007 | Reply

I haven’t solved the whole thing yet, but I have stopped most of the annoying pop-ups. Just one left, and only on start-up. Have disconnected that PC from Internet though.

First, disconnect from Internet to reduce likelyhood of re-infection part way through process

    Edit the registry
    Look at
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

    WinAVX
    Contents show as ‘C:\WINDOWS\system32\WinAvXX.exe’

Delete the value (highlight WinAVX and press the delete button).

NastyWinAV creates polices that prevent Control Panel and Windows Update working.
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer

    NoControlPanel
    Contents show as ‘1′
    NoWindowsUpdate
    Contents show as ‘1′

Delete each value (highlight NoControlPanel and press the delete button). When you exit Regedit, you will find you can get to the Control Panel again.

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam\MUICache

    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup\autorun.exe
Contents show as ‘AntiVirus 2007 Pro’
    C:\Documents and Settings\%YourLoginName%\Start Menu\Programs\Startup\system.exe
Contents show as ‘AntiVirus 2007 Pro’
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\printer.exe
Contents show as ‘AntiVirus 2007 Pro’
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\WinAvXX.exe
Contents show as ‘AntiVirus 2007 Pro’

I don’t think these actually do anything.

NastyWinAV does some sort of system restore point so be careful if you try to do a system restore, and go back beyond the point NastyWinAV arrived!

NastyWinAV’s key files all get mentioned in C:\WINDOWS\Prefetch
    Printer.exe et al.

NastyWinAV replaces C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC\HOSTS with one of its own which prevents lots of antivirus and firewall programs from being able to connect to their update points – and may prevent you using their web sites. Ideally, replace it with your own backup copy, or a fresh copy from somewhere. If all else fails, use notepad to create an empty HOSTS file in the \ETC, and then put in a single line saying

    127.0.0.1 localhost

    Hope this helps

Ok, I acquired this wonderful virus (WinAntivirus Pro 2007)or diseaster or whatever it would be called yesterday and I spent most of last night trying to get rid of it by following all the hints listed on this website and I am still running into the adminisitration problem. I visited the spyhunter website and did their free scan and it showed (before I deleted all I could find) WinAV pro 2007 and WinAV pro 2006. On my own I have not been able to find anything stating WinAV Pro 2006. Any suggestions? Should I buy spyhunter, will it remove all the damaged files, etc? I can at least use my computer now but trying to make any program changes or anything having to do with “admin” I get this message “This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator.” Can anyone help me further or tell me if spyhunter will correct this problem?

I tried using the FREE version of AVAST but that still didn’t work. I’m using the trial version of Bit defender right now to get rid of it.

THE FILES LISTED ON TOP ARE RANDOM GENERATIONS. The reason all of you guys are finding files that are not on the list is because some of the dll’s are randomly generated. As much as I hate this program, the programmers of this thing did a pretty good job of ANNOYING THE CRAP OUT OF YOU by keeping this dumb thing alive on your computer.

For instance, these guys put in extra .dll files that will stop other antivirus software from running! They even put in an extra internet exlorer (add on) that prevents you from searching on google.com, altavista.com, and ask.com for ways to remove it. I’m assuming this scam is so successful that they have been able to hire good programmers to find ways to outsmart the user.

    Hey Guys and Gals
I had this crap pop up yesterday and we have solved the problem by reinstalling a restore disk which we made when we purchased our laptop. We had to go into safe mode to do it but we went back 4 days ago and guess what bob is your uncle. It worked no more nasty wincrap no antivirus pro 2007. Does anyone know how companies like this can be prosecuted for the money and damages they cause people.
Looking at this list of people who have this problem (and this is just the tip of the iceberg) laws should be passed and inforced against CRIMES like this! These people need to be held accountable! If anyone knows of any agency that deals with this kind of problem, PLEASE let me know.

This is maddening! Nearly two hours spent scanning, only to be told I must purchase the program in order to have the viruses deleted. Fairness would mean warning me in advance not to bother with the scan. This is unfair but perhaps the way it is done wherever this program, with its misspellings throughout, is designed.

If you are not infected but are still having pop-ups and you have xp click on start,go to run, type in msconfig, go to start-up tab, find win antivi and un-check the program and re start your computer. That will take care of the pop-ups!!! Good Luck.

    Guys,

I’ve been in IT for 5 years now and have seen many malware varieties. Please do not pay ANOTHER 3rd party in order to remove this. It only fuels the problem and is never 100% guaranteed to work. This stuff is very dynamic and can “morph” to avoid detection/removal. They also tend to be “self-repairing” in that if you successfully remove pieces of it – the remaining pieces can fill-in the blanks.

Trust me when I say its always better to just chock this up as a learning experience and reformat. If you really value your data you can back it up first, but there is always the chance you could inadvertently backup the infection only to later restore it. Keep in mind you will need to reinstall any programs that you added to the system after your bought it. For those who didn’t keep or can’t find the restore CD’s that originally shipped with the machines you get a 2nd learning experience.

As far as pursuing them legally I wouldn’t hold my breath there. I’m sure the company behind this is outside the country – i.e. – outside the U.S.’s jurisdiction …. and there is no world court that I know of. The closest we’ve come to that is the U.N. and they can’t agree on what day of the week it is. Your best bet here is to contact your credit card company and ask to dispute the charge. Explain to them what happened and remember they are on your side here. If you reverse the charges, they are out money too so the have a vested interest to work with you to resolve it.

    Hope this helps,
    Good luck to all!!

I’ve gotten all (pretty sure) remains off the computer EXCEPT that annoying pop up warning balloon in my taskbar. What am I missing? Where is that damn thing hiding at? I’ve gone through every inch on my computer and following every manual remove instruction I found on the net. It’s still here!!
Fortunatly, for the most part, I prevented the so called software from completly installing, but 1 part remains. So can anyone help me find a way to locate it and remove it once and for all?

    Another way

To start your system in safe mode:
    Shut down the computer completely.
    Power on
Press F8 key repeatedly. If you get a keyboard error, restart your system and do this again.
This will take you to a screen with many options such as (Normal, Safe Mode with Command Prompt, Safe Mode, Safe Mode with Networking). Use the arrow keys to highlight Safe Mode with Networking and press enter.
You will recieve an alert saying that you are starting your computer in Safe Mode and a long paragraph explaining what Safe Mode is.

then I restored my system to a previous date and it worked…….

finally US Government put an end to this shit:

In its legal action the FTC targeted two firms: Innovative Marketing, Inc. and ByteHosting Internet Services, LLC.

The fake security products the firms were peddling were: WinFixer, WinAntivirus, DriveCleaner, ErrorSafe, and XP Antivirus.

A US District court granted an injunction which stops Innovative Marketing and ByteHosting Internet Services from continuing to advertise their products, and from making false claims about their efficacy.

Unfortunately, I, like many of you, paid good money for WinAntiVirus Pro 2007, which totally crashed my desktop. I took it to a computer store and they were able to retrieve most of my files and pictures and format the hard drive which cost another $250. When I called the 800 number for the Winantivirus, they told me that I cannot have 2 antivirus programs on 1 PC and that caused the crash. By the way, the 800 number has been disconnected.

So now I have a desktop without a virus program and my son recently bought me a new laptop which also does not have an antivirus program. Can anyone advise a really good antivirus program that I can buy at the store which is loaded using a CD? I will not download anyting from the internet. Many thanks.

Hey guys, Please do not waste your money trying to fix the problem. None of the antivirus or any other software can fix this. This damn stuff is embedded in to your os.
Save what you can and Format your hard drive, or restore your system with the original cd that came with your pc or contact your manufacturer for replacement restoration CD.

It is July of 2009, I just got this virus, am shocked that it has been around since last year. It has been a nightmare; I had to call and have internet connection re-installed, but the pop-ups are continuous, and my system is so slow, snail mail is quicker. Has anyone found an cd/disc that will remove this nightmare? If I had one minute alone with the pricks behind this, I would cut their throats!

You haven’t had any problems with Win Antivirus Pro?
Come on – it steals information & reports your personal info back to hackers.
Hope you haven’t been placing credit card orders or doing any banking over the web.

    Hey guys,

I found a very easy way to get rid of it. Go to the folder named Windows Antivirus Pro in C:\Windows\Programfiles and just rename the Windows Antivirus Pro.exe file to some other file like .txt. Then it stops popping up and then allows you to delete it. however it does not take care of the programs that it blocked. still have to figure that out..
