    Mary,

There are step by step instructions listed above, with each instruction there is a ‘learn to do this’ link. I’m afraid your going to have to try to stop being illiterate and actually bother yourself with learning something new.

Just wanted to say thanks, the program downloaded without me even knowing and has sicne been popping up saying I have all these trojans (which I know I don’t and redirecting me to funky sites.

Norton didn’t even warn me about this “WinsSpwareProtect” thing so I was furious.

Anyway I followed each of your instructions and it’s gone bye bye now so thanks a bunch, very useful free steps that I had to do manually after paying €120 for Norton which should have done it all for me.

    Aw well, thanks anyway :)

Does anyone know where to report this “Win Spyware Protect” company? I tried to find it under this name at the Better Business Bureau to report, but its not listed under that. I also would like to track down the actual corporation name (or officers) so I can report it to the Secretary of State (and possible serve their registered agent with a lawsuit for all of the damage these guys have done to my computer.) Any info would be appreciated!

I don’t know if this thing got smarter but it won’t let me do any of the instructions given. It says Access Denied by Service Administrator or this function has been disabled by the Administrator. Any Help?

  14. By Tim on Jul 3, 2008 | Reply

Austin we would be interested in joining your lawsuit against this company (or starting a mob with torches and pitchforks).

  15. By Another Tim on Jul 7, 2008 | Reply

Corby — sounds like you are not logged in as an “administrator” on your computer. You need to log off and log back in with an account that has administrative capabilities, or else run the program (if you can) by using the “Run As” feature — hold shift while you right click the program you’re trying to open, then tell it you want to run the program as an administrator. Good luck.

Along with Winspyware, my task manager keeps saying it’s been disabled by my administrator. I also lost my programs menu from the start button – the one with accessories, tools, etc. I don’t know how to get those back. I am extremely non-savvy with computers, so if anyone can give me SIMPLE solutions to these problems, I would appreciate it. I have run SpySweeper several times, but 2 viruses continue to fail the quarantine process.

  19. By anonymous on Jul 17, 2008 | Reply

This program actually disabled my task manager. Wow, does anyone know how to enable it?

  20. By Ben on Jul 17, 2008 | Reply

I would like to kill WinSpywareProtection. If anyone does know how to report them, please tell me. I dont want any money off them, I would just love to have the oppertunity to kick these people in the nuts over and over again.

Looks like after 10 plus hours, I figured out (by reading various posts) the best way to fix this problem. If you can remember when this winspyware pop ups started, do a file search for that date and delete all of those files – mine all had identifiers of “Web Technologies”. You will have to kill the actively running processes in order to delete the files – my culprits were (wcs, iebtm, iebr) all with the .dll extension. I was unable to delete one of the files, but renamed it with a .xxx extension. My computer seems better, knock on wood; but I too tired to try surfing around any more tonight. Hopefully I am somewhat out of the woods…

    Good luck to all!

We have this on one of our computers at work. It seems like extortion. Has any one registered with them and paid them? I’d be curious to find out if it stopped all the annoyance.

  23. By anon on Jul 29, 2008 | Reply

Good advice Hammer – that’s eactly what I had, and the action I took. Fingers crossed, looks like it’s fixed.

Many thanks for this invaluable advice!

Now to update my PC with a more robust anti-virus package!

I got WinSpywareProtect accidentally. I have located the exe file but was unable to delete it because “access denied”.

Does anyone have any idea how to overcome this?

    Thanks.

    James

I have the same problem as every one else. I have downloaded ’spyhunter’ and as i write this,it has found almost 1000 infected files and about 40 of those are ‘winspywareprotect’. Hopefully, when spyhunter is done, it’ll terminate the lot. I will keep you all posted :o )
