If you cant find the files listed, try looking in c:\documents and setting\all users\application data for a folder that is a random series of numbers. The infected PC I’m dealing with had no “Winweb Security 2008″ directories on the c drive.
One of the symptoms of Winweb Security 2008 is that it blocks the software installer from creating directories in order to complete installation. If you manage to get the software installed, it’ll block or redirect away from legitamate download sites such as Microsoft, Symantec etc. Most anti-spyware require an update to the definitions after install prior to performing the system scan. So if you try to install anti-spyware on an infected computer, you won’t get very far.

I just did a system restore to get rid of the nasty win websecurity. Let me know if you have questions.
By james on Dec 16, 2008 | Reply
Can you e-mail me instructions, step by step i have tried everything.
By Black on Dec 17, 2008 | Reply
System restore should be located in your control panel. Make sure you indicate how far you want to go back for your system restore. I only went back a couple hours when I downloaded the win websecurity. I didn’t lose any of my documents, only the programs I installed during that duration.Let me know if that works.

I can vouch for Scott’s comment below, it works. It seems that some of the newer Winweb installations have changed the names of their files, this makes the manual removal a little harder. These are the steps I took to remove the program (Windows XP):
1. Open the Winweb program. Make sure you are looking at the menu with the System Scan option, etc.
2. Press Ctrl+Alt+Delete and click on the “Applications” tab. You should see an entry for the Winweb Security program. Right click on this entry and click on the “Go To Process” option that comes up on the pop-up menu. This takes you to the Processes tab and highlights the renamed Winweb program. In my computer the process was a long number, something like 9255602 or some such, write this number down. Go ahead and click the “End Process” button. This kills the Winweb Security program currently running on your PC. Now to remove it from the computer…
3. Press Start > Run then type “msconfig” to get to the system configuration utility. Click on the Startup tab and under the “Startup Item” column, look for that same process number, 968827200 or some such from the previous step. Look at the next column over
at the “Command” column. Resize this column if needed. The command in this entry points to the location of the Winweb Security program in your computer. Make a note of it. On my computer it was in c:\documents and setting\all users\application data\ though it may change in the future.
4. Go to this directory in your windows explorer (Start Button > My Computer) and remove this program and the folder that its in. This uninstalls Winweb Security, congrats! Note, though, that there may still be registry settings floating around in your computer (though they are now forever inactive)

Here’s an abridged posting of my previous comment for those who may be less computer savvy. If it doesn’t work, I would try the steps in the previous post.
Click on Start then go to My Computer. Click on “Local Disk (C:)” then “documents and setting” hen “all users” then “application data”. In this directory I found a directory with named with a long number, something like 92550602 or something like that. If I clicked on it I found the Winweb Security program (you should be able to see their familiar icon on one of the .exe files) . If you do see this you have hit paydirt. To uninstall the program delete this folder.

Hi folks, i was having the same problem but managed to just get rid now. Do a System restore to just before you remember installing it. Go to Start / Run / type in msconfig and then run System Restore to an earlier time, you should not loose any files are anything it was fine for me. Hope this helped

i also tried doing a system restore and that don’t work either…i ran another spy program and it did not find winweb! any other ideas..i am really getting annoyed with these pop ups

I too am having problems w/ WinWeb Security. It initiates on my computer and keeps popping up all the time. I looked for files w/ name WinWeb = none there. I turned it off in taskmanager = still running. I checked regedit for spydawn = nothing. im thinking the file is loaded under applications as a series of numbers and another file within as a series of numbers. everytime i try to delete this, the icon for winweb shows up and tells me i cannot delete as program is running. i also cannot access any programs to download as the message,”connection was refused when attempting to contact…” appears. What to do?

Thank you so much…..this thing was driving me nuts. But I have to tell you that I couldn’t find it in “all users\application data” etc…
I had to run a search on the C: drive for the number that you had refered to, and it sounds like there are many different ones being generated. And then right click it in the found files, and hit delete! Whammo!! Gone!!! YEAH!!!

found the program folder in documents and settings but cannot delete. I continue to get the prompt saying “Cannot delete 15561256620: Access denied. Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected and that the file is not currently in use. Anyone know how to resolve this?
By Geordie on Dec 18, 2008 | Reply
chuck, you need to stop the process first before deleting the file .!
By tom on Dec 18, 2008 | Reply
to get rid of winweb you need to download windows defender
By Tim on Dec 19, 2008 | Reply
That means the program itself is still running. You must first shut it down through the task manager, as stated above, before atempting to delete it.
By Angie on Dec 19, 2008 | Reply
How do you “stop the process”? I, too, get the error message that states the file cannot be deleted…blah, blah, blah. The icon is at the bottom of my screen (where the time is, etc.), but I can’t get rid of it. I don’t believe I’m actually running the program. I did the “Go to Process” and “End Process” and did all that. Winweb Security keeps popping up though, like always. How do I get it to where I can delete this darn file?!!! Help! Thanks!!!! Ang;o)

Nevermind. I figured it out…finally! Now the stupid thing is gone for good!!!! Hallelujah!!!! Thanks to all those who helped make it possible!!!! Happy Holidays!

I have a complete different scenario occured to me. During the first two days after being hit by winweb (constant pop ups on my desktop), I turned off my computer for several days as I wanted to do more research on this by using my laptop.
A funny thing happened. Yesterday when I turned my desktop back on for the first time, the winweb icon did appear at the bottom of right screen for a few seconds and then disappear altogether. Since then, there were no more pop ups. I find it very strange. Would it just be gone by itself? I find it very hard to believe.
Has anyone encounter this situation? Please provide feedback. Many thanks!!!
