  2. Jose says:

Have anybody tried system restore? It works like a champ. :)

  3. Natalie says:

jose, i could not find any restored points. XP Antispyware 2009 deleted them? this really sucks. I don’t want to spend money on a good software but I also don’t want to wasting time to reinstall my computer.

  4. Rodriguez says:

I found more than one trace in the registry for XP Antispyware 2009. Am I supposed to romove all the entries? If I remove them, I am afraid that I would damage the computer. What is the proper steps to take care of this? I am so lost now.

  5. SpywareHater says:

System Restore did not work for me! The latest restored point is today. I cannot find anything older than today. It’s getting very very frustrated.

  6. Carl says:

I figured that it’s time to move over to a Mac which recommended by friends. They never got a virus.

  7. Tom says:

Anyone know how this virus/spyware actually gets onto ones system?

  8. Norman says:

I know I shouldn’t have clicked on that. Yeah.. the porn! I admit what I did. So now what? How the hell can I get rid of this sh*t?!

  9. Sarah says:

XP Antispyware 2009 is so annoying. I closed all the windows it opened and they came back instantly. I can’t do anything to the computer eventually. The mouse stays there and not responding. What’s the rescue plan? Please assist me.

  10. art says:

    1) Reboot computer to safe mode. If you don’t know how to do this, you might as well throw the computer out of the window.

    2) search the files or folders “xp_antispyware 2009″.

    3) delete them in safe mode. If it says in used, right click on task manager and select end process first.

    4) delete delete and delete all the bad files.

    6) god bless america!

  11. Debbi says:

I have gone through every single word but still clueless. Can anybody be nice enough to remote control my computer to remove XP Antispyware 2009 for me? I can’t afford to pay you though. Thank you.

  12. Ilya Elbert says:

Wait Debbi, you want someone to use remote control software to come into your pc (which is not free btw, I pay a monthly fee of $100), and use their research and knowledge to help you?

Why don’t you do the research yourself, and take time out of your day instead of going out, or talking to friends, or working making money to pay for entertainment or rent, and try to fix it yourself………after that maybe you’ll appreciate people’s time more.

  13. JB says:

I also have been trying to remove.
    - Tried removing the files and the registry keys
    - Bought SpyHunter3 and have run the scan 4 times and re-booted.

I am down to one file that I can not remove/edit/etc either maually or by using SpyHunter:
    C:\Windows\brastk.exe

    Does anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks.

  14. sergio says:

i have but i didnt get rid of it?

  15. dodi says:

I found many files in the \WINDOWS\Prefetch folder, for example:

    XP_ANTISPYWARE.EXE-3468F840.pf

They need to be deleted as well, yes?

  16. dodi says:

JB, as for brastk.exe, I found it in the register. Run regedit and look for it in the
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

    Let me know.

  17. Joe says:

I went to the startup menu and disabled xp antisyware. The popups are gone and browsing is back to normal. My homepage doesn’t keep changing to google anymore. I can also enable my free Mcafee that comes with my ISP. All of this not possible before I disabled the startup.

Guess I’ll get to the deletions as soon as I can.

    Thanks for the info!!!!!!!!!!

  18. Person says:

I tried all and searched for all of the files and I got no search results! The folders aren’t there, but my pop-up blocker has stopped working and antivirus is continuously sending me pop-ups and messages. It is trying to do a scan on my computer

  19. carl says:

I did everything posted here. Deleted brastk, took it out of the registry and it keeps coming back. I deleted newly created prefetch files to no avail. This malware has disabled my virus software, restricted access to Task manager, will not let Spybot run, (although TeaTimer works), diabled AVG and I cant find its link up source. HELP!!!

  20. Dave says:

Help! Same problem as Carl. Manual search turns up no files. Access to my virus software terminated, except Lavasoft and Ewido which can’t find it and can’t be updated. Any web access to spyware terminated. Can’t even access purchase of spyhunter. In the past I’ve turned to SWI forum for manual fix with assistance but, their website is blocked!
    Help!!! Please

  21. Benny says:

I cant just remove XP antispyware 2009 by going to the control panel and remove programs function? I tried to do this and it was taking forever, so i left it while I went to work. If this doesnt work I guess I will have to go to safe mode and remove the files mentioned above?

  22. Stephen says:

Remember to follow all steps while in safe mode. To get to safe mode press F8 while your computer boots and choose “Safe Mode”. Once booted choose to log in as administrator then follow the below steps.

    1) When dealing with any virus/spyware/malware always disable your system restore points. The application will respawn if removed from the restore points.

2)The files should be as follows:
    c:\Windows\system32\wini10(other numbers).exe
The above file will vary on the numbers but it will cause your main infection to come back.
    c:\windows\brastk.exe
    c:\windows\karna.dat
    c:\windows\system32\brastk.exe
    c:\windows\system32\karna.dat
    c:\windows\system32\_scui.cpl

3)Click Start Run and type regedit and search for all instances of the above files and use the F3 key to scan to the next instance of the file. Once the registry is cleaned its time to stop the processes from running on startup.

4)Click start Run and type msconfig. Click the startup tab and look for the above files.

This should clear the majority of the malware from your machine. There are a lot of other files associated but these are the main culprits from what I have found.

I hope this bit of information helps you get your system back to an operational state. Another thing that likes to come along with this PoS program are rootkits. These will prevent you from installing most anti-malware apps. Please only click the links above and verify that the address field is correct. With a rootkit you will either get redirected or a page cannot be displayed when going to removal websites.

  23. pradm says:

Alex thanks for u steps…i successfully removed the malware by deleting the registry entries & files..
    Thanks again :)

  24. Maria says:

I cannot acess my TaskBar, please help.
It says it was disabled by the administrator

  25. sandi says:

Where does Microsoft address the latest malware called “personal guard 2009″? This is wrecking XP users and there seems to be no remedy except to wipe the hard drive which I am attempting to do now but it has not been easy.

Looking at post on various sites–this thing replicates itself no mater what you try or how much security you apply.

I am going to buy a MAC–after this nightmare it seems to be the only remedy. Spending hours trying to get rid of this has not endeared me to Microsoft.
