Antivirus Smart Protection is a phony anti-virus application, which uses a variety of malicious advertising methods in order to force through its bogus full version.
For the purpose of entering vulnerable computers, the malware uses two main tactics. The first one consists of fake online scanners and flash advertisements. If clicked on, the scanners claim that the computer in question has been infected and prompt its user to download the trial version of Antivirus Smart Protection. What you should know in case you come across an online Antivirus Smart Protection scanner is that it has no access to your computer and therefor has no chance of knowing whether it is infected or not. The flash advertisements are more sneaky since if clicked on, they immediately download the trial version of the rogue on your PC. Therefor, you should avoid clicking on any flash ads that come as a part of suspicious websites.
Trojans, hidden in compromised webpages, are also made use of by the creators of Antivirus Smart Protection. When a user clicks through the hacked website, the Trojans enter his/her PC through vulnerabilities found in its system, without even informing the user. Since vulnerabilities are mostly caused by outdated software, it is highly recommended that you keep all your software up-to-date by downloading the updates of the given programs only from their official websites. When inside, they immediately bring the rogue inside, as well.
Antivirus Smart Protection does not waste any time, but makes changes to the Registry and configures itself to be launched automatically every time Windows starts. Then, the phony application starts producing an enormous amount of pop-ups right after its installation. They all declare that the computer system is facing a number of virus attacks. When the user clicks on any of these alerts, he/she is urged to purchase the rogue’s full version in order to get rid of the security threats. Please note that there is nothing legitimate in these notifications – they only aim at scaring the victims into believing they indeed need to spend their money on the fraudulent software. This is also the reason why such fake applications are called scareware.
Antivirus Smart Protection’s next trick is its counterfeit scanning tool, which appears rather often and, what is more, uninvited. It pretends to be scanning the system and fills a list of infections. Though some of the signs on it are in French, it clearly states in English the following:
“Please click “Remove all” button to erase all infected files and protect your PC”
What the “Remove all”button does is to urge the user to purchase the full version of the rogue. Needless to say, the victim most probably has no viruses inside the computer system and even if there are some – they are surely none of the ones, listed by the deceitful application.
The phony warnings and scans, however, are not only annoying, they slow down the overall performance of the machine and hamper your proper work. Apart from the fact that Antivirus Smart Protection is a virus, its constant intervention in everything you attempt to do on the PC is yet another reason for you to decide to remove the malicious program from your computer.
Do not be a part of Antivirus Smart Protection’s malignant game – remove it immediately from your machine with the help of a genuine anti-virus program!
