Dreamweaver 8.0 Crashes on Windows Vista

June 1st, 2007 | by Brian |

(TROUBLESHOOTING) It has been reported that Dreamweaver 8.0 might crash or freeze on some Windows Vista systems while browsing for files. This is caused by Office Groove that bundled with Office 2007 Ultimiate. To resolve this, you simply need to uninstall MS Office Groove. According to Adobe’s website, this issue will be resolved in the next Dreamweaver release (Spring, 2007) since Dreamweaver 8 was released long before the debut of Windows Vista and Office 2007.
Here’s a complete instruction on how to uninstall Office Groove 2007 component within Windows Vista:

  1. Choose Start > Control Panel.
  2. Click “Pograms/Uninstall”.
  3. Select “Microsoft Office Ultimate 2007″.
  4. Click the Change button.
  5. When the Office setup wizard opens, select Add Or Remove Features.
  6. Click the drop-down menu next to Microsoft Office Groove and select Not Available.
  7. Proceed with the Groove uninstall.
  8. Done.

Other than this, I have not seen any issues running Dreamweaver 8.0 on the Vista machine. Hope Adobe listen to the customers and release a patch to fix this for those who does not want or need to upgrade to the future release of Dreamweaver.

Absolute star.. How the hell do people find these obscure solutions…but I’m gald they do!

Ummm.. I need Groove for my work. It;s how my virtual team communicates.

Maybe the solution is Just uninstall Dreamweaver and give up. I have been planning to update to CS3. But I am finding this, walk away we are not accountable for Cs2 at all attitude from Adobe to be rough.

I seriously am going to look at the new Microsoft tools, they support stuff for five years after it is off the shelf. Too bad Adobe doesn’t seem that committed to the customer.

    I have the same issue…

Unfortunately GROOVE IS NOT THE PROBLEM.

I think that Adobe is just grasping at straws on this one.

I do not even have Groove installed and never have but Dreamweaver 8 still crashes when browsing for files on Vista Business operating system.

They are just throwing something out there to make it look like they are doing something…

They just do not want to patch Dreamweaver 8 and instead drive sales of CS3

I use Dreamweaver CS3 on this XP machine and installed Office Groove a couple of days ago and my system randomly rebooted itself twice which has never happened before.

I turned off the Groove three hours ago and no more crashes so far.

I wasted hours trying to install Groove on my Vista laptop and gave up in the end.

I bought a machine with vista in august, and in the first week I uninstalled office 2007 (it was only a trial anyway) I installed office 2000 xp.There is no groove that I can see in the office programs list, but DW8 still crashes, so many time a day its impossible, I need it for work so ditching it as much as i love to, I can’t.It;s not the only program that crashes, but anything I use like extensions in dreamweaver, or fireworks, or illustrator, they all crash.Any more suggestions? Adobe get your shit together and fix this, its driving us all insane.

This is not really a problem, but puzzling none the less.

I’ve just got this problem of a Dreamweaver cs3 has shut itself down after I tried to insert flash or rollover image. Reading this make me realised, I’ve just install Microsoft Office 2007 a few days ago and I followed up your advise and it works!!
Just want to know that I’m very grateful for your advise. I’m not genius on computer and every time the problem cropped up, I could just tear off my hair into pieces. Thanks once again.

Definitely seems to have resolved my crashing problem. You may not even realize you have Groove installed (I certainly didn’t), so do check for it using the steps described above. I don’t need to use it for collaboration, so I uninstalled, but it sounds like disabling it works, too. Great advice, thanks!

I have vista home premium 64 bit but still dreamweaver 8 crashes when I try to browse for files especially when saving even after unsinstalling Groove. I am too stressed; the machine itself hp-pavilion dv4 does not have XP drivers for most of its functions/components.
    Problem may not be Groove.
